Nova Drip (2019), an original contemporary abstract acrylic painting on canvas by Sacramento artist Douglas Keliiheleua Kleinsmith. Soft, atmospheric washes of pale lavender, ivory, mint green, and buttery yellow surround a central arrangement of sweeping crimson, charcoal, and turquoise brushstrokes. Translucent geometric shapes, curved ribbon-like forms, and delicate white linear accents intersect with expressive, textured marks. This 36 x 48-inch gestural abstract painting combines luminous pastel color fields, layered geometric abstraction, and contrasting hard and soft edges in an open, asymmetrical composition.
