Lamenting Progress (2020), an original 40 x 40-inch contemporary abstract acrylic painting on canvas by Sacramento artist Douglas Keliiheleua Kleinsmith. Interlocking geometric shapes and sweeping, curved brushstrokes overlap in a layered composition of charcoal gray, black, deep crimson, pale lavender, and mint green. Translucent angular fragments intersect with broad, circular gestures, while small accents of bright yellow introduce sharp color contrasts. This square abstract artwork combines geometric abstraction, expressive mark-making, and intricate brush textures.
