Claustraphoria (2020), an original contemporary abstract painting in acrylic and hard pastel on canvas by Sacramento artist Douglas Keliiheleua Kleinsmith. Translucent geometric shapes and sweeping, curved brushstrokes overlap in a complex composition of pale yellow, lavender, dusty pink, charcoal, and deep teal. Sharp angular fragments intersect with broad circular gestures, textured pastel marks, and layered passages of muted color. This 36 x 48-inch abstract artwork combines geometric abstraction, expressive mark-making, and intricate surface textures, contrasting luminous, transparent forms with darker, densely layered areas.
